During Gracie’s annual checkup, her vet urged me to be more thorough about Gracie’s dental health or she would need some dental work before long. Gracie is 9 1/2 and has yet need a dental cleaning, mostly because she is really good about letting me brush and clean her teeth. However, it can be hard to reach the back molars and she had a pretty good bit of plaque build up and her gums seemed to be irritated.
Recent studies have shown that probiotics can help improve gum health, fight the formation of plaque, freshen breath, and reduce your chances of oral cancer. So, in addition to giving her antlers and horns to chew on, I have been giving Gracie Fidobiotic’s Puppy Breath Crusher tablets to help with her oral health.
In addition to the 500 million CFUs of probiotics per tablet, Fidobiotic’s Puppy Breath Crusher also has barley grass, kale, alfalfa and citrus bioflavonoids to help promote fresh breath and healthy gums. According to Fidobiotic’s suggested feeding, Gracie should get 3 to 6 tablets a day. Gracie did not have any issues with taking the chewable tablet. I started her on the probiotic in early March and took our progress photo after one month. The first photo is from after her vet visit.
I was not sure how well a probiotic tablet would help Gracie with her dental issues, but was pleasantly surprised when I put these two photos together. I have also noticed improved breath and lighter gums in addition to her plaque reduction. During this time, I was also giving Gracie antlers to chew on to help reduce plaque build up. Gracie does still have a while to go before I will be happy with her teeth, but I think our progress so far is great! If she improve as much every month as she did this last month, her teeth will be wonderful by her next vet visit in the fall.
Thanks for reading,
Katie, Gracie, and Echo
