Canine dental health is important part of our dogs health that can be easy to forget about. Just like with humans, keeping up your dog’s teeth and gums is extremely important. You wouldn’t ignore it if you or your child had a cavity or gum disease, so do not ignore it when your dog does!
There are several ways you can keep your dog’s teeth and gums healthy. Gracie loves dental treats. Greenies, Whimzees, Natural Balance, and Purina all make a variety of treats to keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy. Chewing on these treats helps to remove plaque and strengthen teeth and gums. There are also fresh breath drops by Tropiclean you can put in your dog’s water to help fight plaque. You can also brush your dog’s teeth and provide them with chew toys to promote dental health. However, your dog’s diet is also a large part of good dental health. A balanced diet high in meat will help to keep your dog’s teeth and gums healthy. I feed my dogs TLC Pet Food which has a meat first recipe. You can check out all the other reasons I love TLC Pet Food on my post from Friday, March 11th.
Petco has created a guide to canine oral health. You can read their article here and check out the graphic below for more information on the importance of canine dental health and ways you can prevent dental issues in your dog.
We also had the pleasure of doing a guest post on the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia’s blog. I wrote about fun activities you can do with your dog this spring. Check out the post here.
Do not forget that this Saturday is Purple Day for Canine Epilepsy Awareness. I will not be doing my usual Friday post. Instead I will be participating in a blog hop on Saturday for Purple Day. Please wear purple in support!
Thanks for reading!

Oral health is so important! It can mean the difference between proper intake of nutrients and food avoidance due to pain. Dental treats are great – my kitties love Greenies. It’s also important to just take a look inside your pet’s mouth and take note of anything that doesn’t look right. Thank you for the great information!

What a great infographic! I’m trying some mint chews with Keira right now. She doesn’t tolerate brushing very well. Great post!

Your post could not have come at a better time. My son’s dog recently started getting her adult teeth, but the baby tooth was still there. They just showed me this today at Easter dinner. I had never seen this before and was unaware of the severity of it. Thank you for sharing. I will be sharing this post on FaceBook so they can see what needs to be done. Thank you so much for sharing.

Dental health is so important to the overall wellbeing of our pets. We’ve tried to brush the kitties teeth before, but it wasn’t a huge success… I need to start again and take it slowly.

I love this infographic, it has so much great information on it. Thanks, I pinned it! I’ve been paying much more attention to my dogs’ teeth the last several months. I haven’t been able to successfully brush their teeth myself (Yet!) but I’ve had my groomer do it and I’ve been giving them dental chews pretty steadily.

We brush Mr. N’s teeth every day and he had a cleaning last year. Small dogs tend to have such bad teeth!

Nice tips and information. In the old days people never took their pets in for cleanings but today we are more educated in all of the medical issues that lack of proper dental care can cause. We are firm believes in dental cleanings for pets.
